A rare mega storm has roared into the Iranian capital city, Tehran, and its suburbs, killing at least five and wounding 30 people. The storm unleashed winds gusting to nearly 120 km/h at around 17:15 local time (1245 GMT) on Monday. Combined with heavy rain and lightening, a high wall of sand and dust enveloped Tehran, plunging the capital into darkness and causing widespread disruption. The incident brought down trees, damaged dozens of vehicles, caused temporary power outages in some districts and triggered several chain accidents across the city. A number of flights were delayed at Tehran’s Mehrabad airport, but operations have now returned to normal as the storm died down.
